Reptiles and amphibians are critical components of a variety of ecosystems, including those of McHenry County, Illinois. These creatures are important members of the animal kingdom, and also provide humans with a variety of services, free of charge! Unfortunately, reptiles and amphibians are very misunderstood. Many people dislike these amazing animals despite the good they do. Our mission is to familiarize citizens of McHenry County with their frog, toad, snake, turtle, and salamander neighbors in order to foster better relationships between humans and herps. We also want to know what species you find while out and about in McHenry County! By knowing where specific species are located within the county and how frequently they are found, we can gauge the health of herp populations and look for opportunities to improve habitat.
