Welcome to the Herpwatch Sightings Blog!

It is springtime in McHenry County and the critters are beginning to emerge from winter hibernation! We have had some serious rainfall recently, so frogs and toads are becoming active! I've also witnessed turtles basking in the warm sun on logs while driving through Woodstock. Here is my first catch of the season, an American toad found hopping into the road on the corner of Route 47 and O'Brian road in Hebron on 4/15/17. The toad was found right before a large storm hit and dozens of individuals were hopping about on the pavement of 47.
